Psychotherapy in Morris County, NJ
Cognitive Change is a psychotherapy practice in Florham Park, New Jersey, serving individuals, couples, families, and adolescents across Morris County and beyond. Founded by Dan Linehan, LCSW, we specialize in evidence-based treatment that’s structured, direct, and focused on real change.
Our office is centrally located on Columbia Turnpike in Florham Park, with easy access from surrounding communities throughout Morris, Essex, and Union Counties. We also offer telehealth for anyone in New Jersey.
What We Treat
We specialize in the things that keep people stuck:
OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder)
Intrusive thoughts, compulsive rituals, avoidance patterns. We use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard treatment. If you’ve tried regular therapy and it didn’t work for your OCD, this is the approach that will.
Anxiety
Generalized worry, social anxiety, panic attacks, health anxiety, phobias. CBT breaks the cycle of anxious thinking and avoidance. Structured treatment with measurable progress.
Teen & Adolescent Issues
Anxiety, depression, school refusal, OCD, self-harm, family conflict, identity struggles. Therapy adapted for how teenagers actually think and communicate, not a watered-down adult model.
Codependency
Over-functioning in relationships, boundary collapse, people-pleasing, losing yourself in someone else’s needs. We identify the pattern, trace it back, and build something different.
Depression
Withdrawal, numbness, fatigue, loss of motivation. CBT for depression combines behavioral activation with cognitive restructuring. Not “just think positive.” Actual treatment.
Couples Therapy
Communication breakdowns, trust repair, growing apart, conflict cycles. Structured work that gives both partners tools, not just a referee.
Family Therapy
Parent-child conflict, blended family adjustment, a teen in crisis affecting the whole household. Systemic work that sees the pattern, not just the “problem” person.
Our Approach
We practice Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. That means sessions are active, goal-oriented, and skill-based. You won’t spend months “exploring feelings” without direction. You’ll learn how your mind works, build tools to interrupt the patterns keeping you stuck, and apply them to your actual life between sessions.
We track progress. We adjust when something isn’t working. We don’t keep people in therapy longer than they need to be.
This isn’t the right fit for everyone, and that’s fine. If you want a therapist who mostly listens and validates, there are great options for that. If you want someone who teaches, challenges, and holds you accountable to your own goals, that’s what we do.
